IPv6 Internet has finally arrived !
Over the next few years, the Internet will continue to undergo a significant architectural change as its core network layer protocol, Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4), is replaced by Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This change is necessary to support the continued growth of the Internet by providing an efficient, secure, flexible and expandable environment.
As you may be aware, there has been a massive deployment of internet-enabled resources worldwide during the last decade. In addition to the Internet and the World Wide Web all other Communication networks are also slowly migrating from circuit switched technology to IP based technologies and India is no exception. Newer and newer types of consumer devices and applications are coming up which will be IP-enabled.....
IPv6 will drive IoT development
As people start hooking on their devices to the Internet and the expected 'smart' world that the Internet of Things (IoT) promises, there will be a massive need for unique and globally reachable IP addresses for each device. IPv4 with its limited numbers has already given up on the ever increasing smart devices. IPv6 with its enormous numbers is the only answer to the deployment and success of IoT and Internet growth
- ERNET provides IPv6 Hands-on Training to Govt. Employees
- IPv6 Awareness Trainings being organised for the Public
- IPv6 ONLY root server YETI hosted in India
- Tunel Broker Service for Indian users
- IPv6 Campus wide Networking services
ERNET being a Research and Education network has been running IPv6 traffic and extensively testing applications and network performance on IPv6 as early as 2006 when the technology was being tested across the world. ERNET had been involved with it International peers to enable IPv6 research network and help Institutions globally connect to each other on IPv6 and test out different applications and services they had core expertise in on IPv6 enabled network so as to be geared up for the future when IPv6 networks evolve.
ERNET has been one of the first Indian network to have implement IPv6 across its backbone and has the unique distinction of having the most experienced and qualified staff with hands-on experience on IPv6 networks and applications. The entire ERNET infrastructure in IPv6 enabled and all users hosting on ERNET Infrastructure are running dual stack.
With its wide experience in IPv6, ERNET has been empanneled by the Department of Telecom (DoT) for transforming Government organisations and Institutions on IPv6. The Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY) has also nominated ERNET to carry out the transformation to IPv6 of DeitY and its associated Organisations.
ERNET is also setting up a unique facility for Training and IPv6 Experience to the users and is very actively involved in the Internet of Things (IoT) to reap the benefit of the technology to the community along with an IPv6 Resource and Incubation Center & Test lab
